I have spent nearly 30 years working with children and adults to help them discover their strengths and create satisfying lives.

My early work as an elementary and middle school Special Education teacher for the mentally retarded taught me the importance of working with a child's strengths, and those of their family as well. During this time I also earned a Master of Special Education degree from Vanderbilt University.

Following that, I worked for 15 years with nursery and kindergarten children at Acorn Hill, a Waldorf/Steiner preschool in Silver Spring, Maryland, and came to appreciate the challenges of parenting in todays world. I discovered how even a little bit of help at the right time can make a critical difference.

Continuing my training, I pursued a master's degree in Counseling Psychology at Bowie State University, providing therapy to children, families, and adults during my training. Graduating in 2003, I received my licensure (Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor) in 2004.

My extensive training and longstanding professional work with children, families, and adults enables me to use a wide variety of creative, appropriate, and helpful approaches that fit the specific needs of the individual.

I am a member of several associations that keep me aware of new developments in counseling and mental and emotional health. These associations enable me to build on the best insights of the national and international communities of professional counselors.

American Counseling Council (ACA)
American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT)
Association for Play Therapy
National Alliance on Mental Illness
